Optical / Mechanical Devices

PMD has extensive experience designing mechanisms / mechanical housings for optical-mechanical systems, test fixtures, etc. PMD typically works in conjunction with optical design engineers to implement their ray traces into a mechanical assembly.Typical systems include various adjustments for optical components / assemblies for calibrating the systems, in addition to mechanisms requires for the function of the assembly.

Several examples of past Opto-Mechanical design projects include the following:

Infrared Camera Devices

Designed the mechanics for various infrared camera devices, including precision instrumentation devices as well as hand-held IR Cameras.

Laser Range Finder / Laser Target Marker Mechanics

Designed mechanical sub-assemblies for multiple Laser Range Finders as well as Laser Target Markers to house customer-designed optical assemblies, including Azimuth / Altitude adjustments as well as X/Y/Z adjustments for various components.

Telescope Positioning Fixturing

Designed fixturing for positioning approximately 12" diameter telescopes, including Azimuth / Altitude adjustments.

Light Source Control Mechanism

Designed mechanics for a precision Light Source Control Shutter Design for aerospace / defense testing equipment, based upon the customer's aperture design. The mechanism exceeded the customer's testing machine resolution capabilities.
