Several examples of past medical device design projects include the following:
PMD has extensive experience designing medical devices / instrumentation, and is familiar with the requirements for such design work. In addition, PMD has established relationships with FDA regulations consultants to help ensure a smooth path from initial design requirements to prototypes, sterilization testing, etc.
Surgical Robotics Drive System Design
Designed a major portion of the drive system of a prototype surgical robotic system, including motor specification, geartrain design, and a major portion of the mechanical layout and detailed design. (James Cuevas, Owner and Principal Engineer, is listed as an inventor on a Patent for the system).
Surgical Instrument Drive System
Designed multiple drive systems for surgical instruments to be used with an existing robotic system.
Bipolor Electrocautery Instrument Design
Worked as a subcontractor for a medical device design firm to design a Bipolar Electrocautery instrument (James Cuevas, Owner and Principal Engineer, is listed as an inventor on a Patent for the Instrument).
Artificial Heart Pump Proof of Concept Prototype
Designed mechanical aspects of an artificial heart pump proof-of-concept prototype to be used to investigate a potential approach to a product.
Bariatric Surgery Instrumentation
Designed delivery catheter mechanism / needle-driving mechanism and supporting fixturing and tooling used for pioneering new bariatric surgery techniques which are less invasive and better for the future health of the patient than standard approaches.
Cancer Treatment Mechanical Fixturing
Designed mechanical fixturing for cancer treatment instrumentation, based upon the client's previous conceptual design.
Operating room Light Ceiling-Mounted Arm Design
Designed a fully counterbalanced operating room light prototype for the leading manufacturer of outpatient medical lights.
Dental Bracket Concept Design
Worked closely with one of the world's leading Orthodontists to create conceptual designs of new dental brackets (i.e., braces). Provided conceptual designs as well as images uses for patents, etc.
